The Group had its beginnings in 1972 in a single business operation. A multinational headquartered in Chennai, India and has manufacturing facilities in India, Mexico and Egypt.
Strategic forward and backward integration, combined with prudent financial management, has been responsible for the Group’s steady progress and the leading position it occupies in different segments.
The Group has set the benchmark for global partnerships, the oldest over 47 years, in a range of industry segments which have stood the test of time. It is reputed for providing manufacturing and market access for global technologies to India. The engineering and foundry investments of the group is a result of its vision to offer indigenously manufactured products as substitution of imports for a wide range of critical process equipment, contributing significantly to enhanced industrial efficiency and process safety.

Driving Force

Third-generation scion of the Sanmar family, Vijay Sankar, the present Chairman of The Sanmar Group, is an alumnus of the JL Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, Illinois.
The Sanmar Group has manufacturing and distribution facilities in Mexico, the United States of America, Egypt, and numerous manufacturing units in India. As Chairman, Vijay is responsible for the Group’s operational management and has been actively involved in Sanmar’s entry into overseas countries.
Vijay Sankar is the Honorary Consul General of Denmark for South India. He was formerly the Honorary Consul of Spain for Chennai and Pondicherry. He serves as the Vice President of the Tamil Nadu Tennis Association (TNTA). He is the past president of the Indian Chemical Council (ICC).
